インスタントコーヒーは、コーヒーから可溶性物質を抽出し、加工して作られます。もはや「コーヒー粉」とはみなされず、お湯に完全に溶けます。インスタントコーヒーの品質はそれほど高くなく、白砂糖や植物性脂肪粉末などの成分が含まれているものもあります。過度の飲酒は身体の健康に良くありません。
